The New Berlin Swim Group is dedicated to promoting a positive experience with competitive swimming. We strive to teach skills that are safe, healthy and fun from beginner to accomplished swimmers. NBSC focuses on individual attention, helping swimmers reach their full potential, promoting a positive and nurturing environment, instilling confidence and self-esteem and providing a rewarding and exciting experience for swimmers and their families.
Swim Groups
Swimmers will be placed in a swim group based on age, ability, and the coach’s assessment. Assessments are done during the tryout. Advancement from one group to another is at the discretion of the coach. Group descriptions were created to provide a basic level of understanding. Specific questions about a swimmer’s placement and/or progress should be directed to their coach.
Senior Swimmers
Emphasis: Swimmers focus on racing, training methodology, mental preparedness and dry-land workouts. Swimmers will have sophisticated workouts to enhance their aerobic endurance, there could be as many as 3 different workouts being done simultaneously to cater to the needs of each swimmer. Swimmers at this level are leaders of the team. In addition to training, they are expected to display good sportsmanship, provide guidance and encouragement to swimmers in other groups.
Practice recommendations: 5 times per week.
Meets: Full meet participation is strongly encouraged.
High School Maintenance
Emphasis: Swimmers workout and stay conditioned during their off season from the high school swim season and prepare for college swimming if appropriate. Dry-land workouts are optional for an extra cost.
Practice recommendations: up to 3 times per week
Meets: Maintenance swimmers are allowed to participate in one (1) meet per session.
Junior Swimmers
Emphasis: Swimmers focus stroke technique, starts and turns, training methodology, mental preparedness. Swimmers are 13 years of age and older and will be preparing for the Senior level. Swimmers in this group would include the high school junior varsity swimmer that wants to improve on their stroke functions and endurance. Swimmers are encouraged to participate in dry-land workouts. At this level swimmers are dedicated to improving and are committed to the sport.
Practice recommendations: 5 times per week.
Meets: Full meet participation is strongly encouraged
Age Group Level Swimmers
Platinum
Emphasis: Swimmers will focus on advanced stroke technique, starts, turns, pace work, endurance training, goal setting and on deck dry-land exercises. Swimmers must be at least 10 years old or have at least a BB motivational time in their age group. At this level swimmers realize the dedication and time commitment involved in the sport.
Practice recommendations: 4-5 times per week. Practices are one hour and a forty-five minutes.
Meets: Full meet participation is strongly encouraged.
Gold
Emphasis: Swimmers focus on advanced stroke techniques, starts, turns, pace work and some endurance training and goal setting. Swimmers are preparing to be the next Platinum or Junior level swimmer. At this level, swimmers realize the dedication and time commitment involved in the sport.
Practice recommendations: 4-5 times per week. Practices are one and a half hours
Meets: Full meet participation is strongly encouraged.
Silver
Emphasis: Swimmers continue to work on stroke techniques for all four competitive strokes. Drills will be introduced, additional introduction to competition training will be provided, starts and turns, goal setting and more endurance training.
Practice Recommendations: 3-5 per week. Practices will be one hour and fifteen minutes.
Meets: Meet participation is encouraged, especially swim your own age meets.
Bronze
Swimmers are encouraged to be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle and/or backstroke, as well as be comfortable in deep water. Coach’s discretion may be used based on stroke evaluation.
Emphasis: Swimmers are introduced to competitive swimming and are mainly provided instruction. Goals include increasing efficiency of freestyle and backstroke, working on breaststroke and butterfly, stroke techniques to prepare swimmers for the next level(s). Start and turn techniques will be taught. This is our beginner group and fun and fundamentals are stressed.
Practice recommendations: 2-3 per week. Practices will be one hour.
Meets: Meet participation is encouraged, especially swim your own age meets.
Coaches
Each swim group has one to two coaches who are dedicated to that group. We strive to have a low swimmer to coach ratio in order to provide individual attention. All coaches are certified by USA Swimming and have Lifeguard certification. Coaches design practice groups for swimmers to develop based on their skill set.
*All swimmer placements within a group are determined by the coaching staff. Swimmers may be moved to a different group throughout the swim season, depending upon their individual progression.
